Safegrid delivered what Randolph EMC was looking for – better visibility into network events and faults, and to locate faults faster to reduce outage times.
Randolph EMC is a Co-Op utility in North Carolina, USA, serving more than 31 000 consumer-members in Randolph, Moore, Montgomery, Chatham and Alamance counties through approx. 4 400 miles (7 081 km) of electricity lines.
Safegrid IGS-system has delivered proven results in accurate fault locating within the Randolph EMC’s transmission network. One of the examples was when a crossarm in Randolph’s transmission line broke down, causing a short circuit in the grid. The existing fault management system showed the fault location to some 20 – 30 min drive away from its true location. The service technicians decided to search the area pointed out by Safegrid. When arriving on the site, they immediately found the broken crossarm causing the fault.
The fault was then fixed and power was restored to the transmission line. The information provided by Safegrid saved the field patrol’s search time and reduced the total outage time.
