Rovakaira is a utility company in Northern Finland that has been in operation for around 75 years and currently employs 80 employees. Rovakaira has 30 000 end-customers and the total length of their distribution network is around 7000 km.
In addition to accurate fault locating, Safegrid and Rovakaira had been working on fault prediction measures to prevent faults in advance. The goal was to improve grid transparency to predict and prevent grid faults preemptively in order to reduce SAIFI.
By using the Safegrid’s 24/7 online measurement function to detect partial discharge signals, the Smart Fault Prediction tool, Rovakaira was enabled to identify, find, and replace a broken insulator all within the same working week.
