Safegrid Announces Strategic Partnership with EDP to Pilot Intelligent Grid Technology

Safegrid, a leading provider of intelligent grid solutions, is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with EDP, one of the largest and most innovative energy companies in the world. The partnership aims to pilot Safegrid’s Intelligent Grid technology with the potential for a wider rollout.

Under the agreement, Safegrid will provide its Intelligent Grid System® as well as its Smart Fault Localization and Prediction technology, enabling EDP to enhance grid monitoring capabilities and improve operational efficiency. This collaboration represents a significant milestone for Safegrid and its local sales partner GEDLux as it expands a commercial relationship with one of the world’s premier grid operating companies.

“We are very proud and excited to test how an advanced technology provided by Safegrid can improve current procedures in detecting and isolating medium voltages faults in our neutral isolated network”, says Pedro Manuel del Rosal Cimadevilla, Transformacion Digital at EDP Spain. “To have a reliable and resilient network is one of our main goals in this partnership. Safegrid’s technology can help a lot in our medium voltage isolated neutral network faults detection, where monophasic faults are very difficult to locate with traditional relay technology.”

Klaus Ola, Vice President of Sales for EMEA & APAC at Safegrid, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, “Starting cooperation with one of the largest and most innovative energy companies in the world is a testament to the capabilities of our technology and team. We’re excited to help EDP Spain to adapt their grids to the energy transition.”

GEDLux’s role as the official distributor of Safegrid products in Spain marks a pivotal role. By offering these unique fault predictive solutions Gedlux can differentiate themselves in the market, open up new avenues, attract new customers and obtain opportunities in the energy management sector.

Recognizing the transformational potential of Safegrid’s medium voltage Predictive Fault Solutions, EDP has chosen to lead the way with a pilot project covering two areas of its network in Northern Spain. The synergy between GEDLux, EDP, and Safegrid is a testament to our shared mission of revolutionizing the energy landscape. Through the partnership, we’re enhancing reliability, reducing downtime, and ultimately, ensuring a brighter, more sustainable future for all.

“Safegrid provides scalable solutions for distribution networks of any size, whether regional or rural. Its technology is at the forefront of fault detection and a taste of things to come”, explains Olga de la Vega, Head of Engineering at GEDLux.

The collaboration contributes to innovation, growth, and competitive advantage for all parties involved. As part of the partnership, Safegrid, GEDLux, and EDP have plans to roll out the Intelligent Grid technology into EDP’s Spanish grids and conduct pilots further in Portugal and Brazil.
